ALESSIO DEGANI
My formal training in engineering deeply influenced the way I approach and conceive music production. Academic studies and music research finally overlapped leading to the Ph.D. in Music Information Retrieval. This gave me the opportunity to join the Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique/Musique (IRCAM) in Paris, where I worked as visiting researcher in the Analysis/Synthesis team. This experience has deeply marked my way of perceiving and experiencing the nature of sound and noise.
Currently my research focuses mainly on data-driven synthesis techniques, sonification, generative music, concrete music with real time/delayed time parameter manipulation.
Recently I have grown fond of field recording, in particular when applied to ephemeral sound documents that are not easy to perceive by ear (like my EMS samples).

Sono field recording di oggetti elettrici catturati con microfoni elettromagnetici.
Il concept pone le sue fondamenta sul “sentire l'inudibile”. Gli oggetti di uso quotidiano come il telefono, il computer il mouse, il phon, la lavatrice etc… emettono suoni nello spettro elettromagnetico VLF.
Questi suoni non li sentiamo ma ci sono. In pratica sono sempre presenti nella nostra quotidianità, ma non li sentiamo. La motivazione dunque è dare voce a questi suoni attraverso la registrazione di essi tramite microfoni particolari (simili a pickup di una chitarra per intenderci). Quindi sentiamo il rumore che fa un mouse bluetooth, un telefono cellulare (anche quando non c’è la suoneria).
